South Oil Company (SOC) is a national Iraqi company responsible for the oil in the South of Iraq, and is Heas Quarters of the company is situated in Basrah, Iraq.

South Oil Company is one of the major fundamental formations of the Iraq National Oil Company. It was the first nucleus and the basis of national direct investment projects in the 1970s, where the SOC was subsidiary to the national company.

In January 2012 SOC reported production to be over 2 million barrels per day (bpd), making it the dominant oil producing government company in Iraq and one of the biggest producers in the world.

SOC is run as an autonomous company with its own management structure, and it has operatorship of Iraq’s southern fields, including its biggest producing field the Rumaila field.  Plus is a key operator is other key fields include Zubair, Majnoon, West Qurna and Luhais.

In order to expand growth of these field, the SOC have key relationship with International Oil Companies, including the likes of BP and PetroChina.

Another key remit for SOC in order to increase oil production from the fields it operates is to develop the exisiting Al-Basra Oil  Terminal (ABOT).  By upgrading the terminal and pipelines of ABOT, the SOC will not only be able to increase exports but also increase the capacity of the terminal.
